An In-Depth Look At The Fagali’I Airport

Fagali’i Airport is a relatively small airport constructed on the islands of Samoa. The airport has been reopened and decommissioned several times due to safety concerns and noise complaints from local residents. The airport is generally operated and managed by Polynesian Airlines and the Samoan Government.

In the summer months of 2009, Polynesian Airlines reopened Fagali’I airport to provide aerial services to Pago Pago, American Samoa. The airport has been criticized of being dangerous in terms of its runway configuration and elevation. Two airlines are known to have used the airport, Polynesian Airlines, and Samoa Air.

The Fagali’I Airport features an extremely short runway, approximately twenty-two hundred feet in length, and is perfect for small civilian or minor airlines to operate from. The only major destination from this short airstrip is the Pago Pago International Airport in the Western District of the American Samoa.
